NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- Derek Stepan scored a tiebreaking goal in the third period Monday and the New York Rangers got back into their playoff series with a 4-3 win over Washington.
Stepan's deflection of a Rick Nash pass got past Braden Holtby with 6:25 left in the third period, breaking a 3-3 tie and giving the Rangers a crucial victory after falling behind 2-0 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Derick Brassard supplied a goal and two assists, Brian Boyle chipped in with a score and a helper and Arron Asham also found the net in the victory.
Henrik Lundqvist turned aside 28-of-31 shots for New York, which will attempt to even the series at home in Wednesday's Game 4.
Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green and Jay Beagle each notched a goal for the Capitals.
Holtby finished with 26 stops for the Capitals.
