MLB: Philadelphia 3, New York Mets 2

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Kyle Kendrick had a solid outing and Kevin Frandsen had four hits in leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 win over the New York Mets.

Philadelphia scored single runs in the third, four and fifth innings in avoiding a four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets.

Kendrick (8-9) allowed a home run to Mike Baxter, his second of the season, to open the game and a one-out homer to Scott Hairston, his 15th, in the second. But he settled down and retired 13 consecutive batters in one stretch.

He gave up seven hits in addition to the two runs. He struck out six.

Jonathan Papelbon pitched the ninth and earned his 30th save.

Frandsen had an RBI single to get the Phillies on the board in the third and Ty Wigginton doubled in John Mayberry, who had three hits, for a 2-2 tie. Frandsen led off the fifth with a double and scored two batters later on Ryan Howard's sacrifice fly.
