Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Gordon Hayward's jumper gave Utah a four-point lead with 33 seconds left Friday and the Jazz survived down the stretch to defeat Philadelphia 102-99.
It was Utah's first win of the season after losses in their opening two games. The 76ers have lost two of their first three.
Utah rallied from a 13-point deficit in the second period and led by as many as seven in the final quarter.
After Hayward gave the Jazz a 101-97 lead, Lou Williams hit two free throws for Philadelphia with 29 seconds left. Williams then missed a layup with 8 seconds remaining that would have tied it and Spencer Hawes missed a tip-in try.
Devin Harris hit 1-of-2 free throws for the Jazz with 5 seconds left for the final point of the game and Williams missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Derrick Favors led Utah with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Jazz avoided what would have been their first 0-3 start to a season since 1979.
Jrue Holiday had 22 for the 76ers, who have lost in each of their last seven trips to Utah.
