TORONTO, July 6 (UPI) -- Delmon Young went 3-for-3 and scored the tie-breaking run in the eighth inning Tuesday, helping the Minnesota Twins edge Toronto 7-6.
After the Blue Jays' Edwin Encarnacion homered in the bottom of the seventh to forge a 6-6 tie, Young led off the Twins' eighth with an infield single off Jason Frasor (3-2) and went to second on Nick Punto's sacrifice bunt.
Scott Downs relieved and Denard Span greeted him with a sharp grounder into center field and Young chugged home to score, lifting the Twins to their fourth win in seven games.
Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel hit back-to-back homers in the sixth to help erase a 5-2 deficit and Joe Mauer added a solo shot in the seventh for the Twins.
Jose Mijares (1-0) got the win by recording two outs in the seventh and Jon Rauch collected his 19th save for Minnesota.
Encarnacion, DeWayne Wise and Lyle Overbay all went deep for the Blue Jays.
