RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron each had a goal and an assist Tuesday, carrying the Boston Bruins to a 5-1 win over Carolina.

Blake Wheeler, Shane Hnidy and Chuck Kobasew also scored for the Bruins, who snapped a four-game losing streak and became the first team in the NHL to reach the 40-win mark.

Boston also extended its margin in the Eastern Conference to 11 points over both New Jersey, which lost to Florida, and idle Washington.

Tim Thomas made 31 saves for his 25th win of the season.

Matt Cullen scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes, who have lost three of four. Cam Ward took the loss after allowing four goals on 33 shots.
