OTTAWA, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Maxim Lapierre's shootout goal on a backhand shot gave the Montreal Canadiens a 5-4 win Saturday night over the Ottawa Senators.
Montreal's Alex Kovalev also scored in the shootout but Ottawa's Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson were both stopped by Canadiens' goalie Jaroslav Halak.
Kovalev, Andrei Kostitsyn, Matt D'Agostini and Tom Kostopoulos scored for Montreal in regulation.
Dany Heatley knocked in two goals and Chris Kelly and Mike Fisher also scored for Ottawa.
Halak made 23 saves and Ottawa's Brian Elliott had 28.
