NHL: San Jose 2, Dallas 1

DALLAS, April 30 (UPI) -- Milan Michalek scored early in the third period Wednesday, allowing San Jose to keep its season going with a 2-1 win over Dallas.

The Sharks still face a 3-1 deficit in the Western Conference semifinals and will again try to fight off elimination when they host Game 6 Friday. The Stars had been trying for their first playoff sweep since 1999, when they won the Stanley Cup.

Michalek's goal at 3:26 was the first power-play score of the series for the Sharks, who finally slowed down Dallas' third-period magic. In their first nine games of the playoffs this year, the Stars had outscored the opposition 17-5.

Wednesday's game turned midway through the second period as Dallas was trying to take command.

The Stars took a 1-0 lead 5:25 into the second on a wrist shot by Jere Lehtinen and they went on the power play when Ryane Clowe was called for interference.

With the crowd in full voice hoping for a two-goal lead, San Jose's Patrick Marleau grabbed the puck at center ice and beat Marty Turco shorthanded for the tying score.

Evgeni Nabokov had to make only 17 saves for the Sharks.
