HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C., April 17 (UPI) -- Five-time champion Davis Love III, looking for a return to the Masters, shared the lead Thursday after one round of the Heritage Classic at Hilton Head, S.C.
Love missed out on this year's Masters, ending a streak of major championship appearances dating back to 1990. A win in this tournament would guarantee an invitation to the 2009 Masters and he began his week with a 5-under 66 that left him tied for the top spot with 2002 champion Justin Leonard and Lucas Glover.
Stewart Cink, who tied for third at the Masters, was in a group of 11 players at 67 that included Charles Howell III, Camilo Villegas, Anthony Kim, John Rollins and Mathias Gronberg.
Defending Heritage champion Boo Weekley shared 23rd place after firing a 69.
Brandt Snedeker and Steve Flesch, both of whom had a chance to claim the Masters crown, were at 1-under 70.
Masters winner Trevor Immelman is not playing this week.
