Seeded sixth in this event, Roddick will take on fourth-seeded Nikolay Davydenko in the semifinals. Davydenko coasted past Janko Tipsarevic 6-2, 6-1.

Federer, the winner of 12 major championships, lost to Roddick for only the second time in 17 career meetings. This was Federer's fourth loss of the year and he has yet to appear in a final.

Roddick had lost 10 straight sets to Federer before winning the first-set tiebreak in Thursday's duel.
