Crosby, Red Wings lead NHL All-Stars

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby was the leading vote-getter and three Detroit Red Wings were also chosen to be starters for the NHL All-Star game.

Crosby amassed 507,274 votes and led all NHL players in the All-Star voting for the second consecutive season. He will lead the Eastern Conference team onto the ice Jan. 27 for the All-Star game in Atlanta.

Half of the Western Conference starters will be from Detroit, which has an NHL-best 67 points this season. Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk all won starting slots for the West.

The other Western Conference starters are Calgary's Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf and Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo.

The Eastern Conference starters come from six teams. In addition to Crosby, the East front line will have Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson and Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier. Boston's Zdeno Chara and Montreal's Andrei Markov are the starting defensemen and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur is set to start in goal.

It is the first All-Star game for Markov while Brodeur and Lidstrom will be appearing in their 10th All-Star games.
