NHL: Boston 4, Buffalo 3 (OT)

BOSTON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Aaron Ward scored unassisted in overtime Thursday as the Boston Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-3.

His third goal this season came at the 4:07 mark of the overtime.

In regulation, Boston took a 2-1 lead at the second intermission on second-period goals by Glen Metropolit (power play) and Phil Kessel.

Buffalo's first goal came from Maxim Afinogenov at 17:31. In the third, Buffalo's Brian Campbell tied it 2-2 with a power play tally at 2:09.

A minute later, Boston went ahead 3-2 on Marc Savard's second goal this season. Buffalo's Paul Gaustad scored his fourth goal on the power play at 8:18 of the third to tie the contest 3-3.

Boston goaltender Tim Thomas stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Bruins, who have won twice in their last three games.

His counterpart, Ryan Miller, was beaten four times on 24 shots for the Sabres, who had won their previous two games.
