NHL: Edmonton 3, San Jose 2 (SO)

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Jarret Stoll scored the deciding goal in the shootout Thursday night, giving Edmonton a 3-2 victory over San Jose.

San Jose's Joe Thornton scored on the power play with 11 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime, but the Oilers prevailed when Robert Nilsson and Stoll were able to beat Evgeni Nabokov in the shootout.

All four regulation goals were scored in the third period with Patrick Marleau giving San Jose a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds after the second intermission.

Tom Gilbert tied it on a slap shot 71 seconds later and Kyle Brodziak put Edmonton in front with only 2:51 having gone by in the period.

Dwyane Roloson made 28 saves for the Oilers.
