Berdych beats Baghdatis for Halle title

HALLE, Germany, June 17 (UPI) -- Tomas Berdych posted a straight-sets tennis victory over Marcos Baghdatis Sunday to win the Gerry Webber Open at Halle, Germany.

The fourth-seeded Berdych lost just two points on his first serve and went on to a 7-5, 6-4, decision for his first ATP singles crown of 2007. The Czech native was the runner-up last year at the Wimbledon tune-up, losing to Roger Federer.

Federer pulled out of the Webber Open Monday following his loss to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final.

Berdych took advantage and didn't lose a set this week on the way to his third career ATP title. He hadn't won a tournament since the Masters in Paris in 2005.

The eighth-seeded Baghdatis, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday, was trying for his second title of the year. He beat Ivan Ljubicic in Zagreb in February.
