NHL: Dallas 3, Philadelphia 2

DALLAS, March 13 (UPI) -- Mike Modano scored the 500th goal of his NHL career as Dallas downed Philadelphia, 3-2, Tuesday.

Modano needs just three goals to surpass Joe Mullen and go into first place on the all-time scoring list among U.S.-born players.

Jere Lehtinen and Jussi Jokinen also scored for the Stars, who have now won three straight and are one of four teams fighting for the final playoff spots in the Western Conference.

Dallas goaltender Mike Smith allowed two goals on 19 shots.

Scottie Upshall and Joni Pitkanen scored for Philadelphia, which has dropped three of its last four games overall. Antero Niittymaki started in place of the tired Marty Biron and made 30 saves in the loss.
