LA SERENA, Chile, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Defending champion Russia Sunday advanced in the 2007 Davis Cup by beating Chile, 3-2, at La Serena, Chile.
The Russians moved into the quarterfinals when Igor Andreev won the deciding match, 6-2, 6-1, 6-7 (7-1), 6-4, against Nicholas Massu.
Russia's victory denied Chileans a first-ever comeback from a 2-0 deficit in Davis Cup play.
In other results Sunday, the United States beat the Czech Republic, 4-1; Belgium beat Australia, 3-2; and Sweden topped Belarus, 3-2.
Spain -- which played without injured star Rafael Nadal -- beat Switzerland, which was without World No. 1 Roger Federer, 3-2.
Germany topped Croatia, 3-2; France belted Romania, 4-1; and Argentina was a 4-1 winner over Austria.
In the next round, the United States will face Spain, Sweden meets Argentina, Belgium plays Germany and Russia faces France.
