Niedermayer, Crosby lead NHL voting

NEW YORK, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Anaheim's Scott Niedermayer and Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby lead their conference's voting for inclusion in the NHL All-Star teams.

Niedermayer has received 329,373 votes for a lead of about 12,000 over fellow defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom of Detroit with Anaheim's Chris Pronger about 100,000 back, the NHL said Wednesday.

Colorado's Joe Sakic lead the Western Division forwards voting with 260,397 votes, about 15,000 ahead of San Jose's Joe Thornton, with Chicago's Martin Havlat in third.

Marty Turco of Dallas leads the voting among the conference goaltenders.

Crosby's 401,365 votes leads all vote getters and is nearly double teammate Evgeni Malkin and Buffalo's Daniel Briere, who were second and third among Eastern Conference forwards.

The race among defensemen is closer with Toronto's Bryan McCabe in first with 245,976, about 3,000 votes ahead of Buffalo's Brian Campbell 40,000 ahead of Boston's Zdeno Chara.

Buffalo's Ryan Miller has a 45,000-vote lead over Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury in the goalie voting.

Voting continues through Jan. 2. The NHL All-Star game is set for Jan. 24 in Dallas.
