MLB: Chi. White Sox 5, Tampa Bay 4

CHICAGO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- An RBI single by Jim Thome in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday night gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay.

Tadahito Iguchi hit a two-run homer; Jose Uribe ht a sacrifice fly and had two hits; Jermaine Dye had two runs and three hits; and a run scored on a throwing error by Tampa Bay second baseman Jorge Cantu, as the White Sox (78-54) overcame a three-run first inning by Tampa Bay to win for the third straight time.

Winner Jon Garland (16-4) gave up four runs and nine hits in eight innings.

Bobby Jenks earned his 38th save.

Delmon Young had two hits and two RBI, B.J. Upton had a run and two hits, and Rocco Baldelli and Greg Norton each knocked in a run for the Devil Rays (52-81), who have dropped their last six games.

The losing pitcher was Brian Meadows (2-5).
