Alyn McCauley had a goal and two assists and Scott Thornton tallied a score and a helper for San Jose, which has lost nine in a row. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 23 shots for the Sharks.

Trailing 6-5 with less than five minutes to play, Shanahan beat Nabokov stick side with a slap shot from the right circle for a power-play tally to tie the game. He netted the game-winner with three minutes left in the contest after he poked a rebound out of mid-air with the shaft of his stick past Nabokov for the 7-6 win.
