Gaudio advances at Shanghai

SHANGHAI, Japan, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Gaston Gaudio beat Fernando Gonzalez, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, on Friday to reach the semi-finals at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai.

Gaudio, the tournament's seventh seed, lost the first set and was a break down in set two before pulling out the tough three-set win. Gonzalez was serving for the match at 5-3 in the 2 hour, 9 minute battle.

Gonzalez made 40 unforced errors, many of which came during crucial points, and fell to 0-4 lifetime against Gaudio, who next plays world No. 1 and two-time defending champion Roger Federer on Saturday. In the other semi, Nikolay Davydenko faces David Nalbandian, who made quick work of alternate Mariano Puerta 6-3, 6-2.

Federer and Gaudio will be meeting for the fifth time, with Federer holding a 4-0 advantage. He beat Gaudio at last year's Masters Cup in Houston.
