MLB: NY Yankees 12, Detroit 3

NEW YORK, May 24 (UPI) -- Mike Mussina pitched seven scoreless innings and Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada each hit two home runs Tuesday as the N.Y. Yankees beat Detroit, 12-3.

Mussina (5-2) scattered six hits while striking out six to earn his fourth straight decision. He did not walk a batter amd the Yankees captured their 13th victory in their last 15 games.

Rodriguez hit a solo homer and then added his league-leading 16th home run -- a two-run blast. Posada hit a one-run homer and later added a three-run blast. Gary Sheffield, listed as day-to-day after an MRI showed he has tendinitis in his left hand, added a two-run home run and Robinson Cano his first career homer.

Rodriguez's two homers give him 397 for his career and moved him to 42nd place on the all-time list.

Marcus Thames hit a three-run homer in the eighth to provide all the scoring for the Tigers.
