Duval breaks par in Tucson

TUCSON, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Billy Mayfair and rookie Mario Tiziani both shot 63 Thursday to share the opening-round lead of the Chrysler Classic of Tucson.

On a day of low scoring, Mark Calcavecchia and Steve Stricker were among those tied for third at 64.

Stricker is a former champion of the World Match Play Championship, which has attracted 64 of the 65 top players in the world to California this week.

Tiziani reached the PGA Tour this year by finishing in a tie for 21st place at the 2005 qualifying tournament. He made it through all three stages of qualifying to earn a spot on the circuit.

The first round also produced the first sub-par round of the year for David Duval. The former No. 1 player in the world, whose game has virtually disappeared over the past few years, shot a 3-under 69.
