PHILADELPHIA, July 25 (UPI) -- Eric Milton came within three outs of his second career no-hitter Sunday to pitch the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Milton allowed two runs on three hits and one walk, while striking out 12 in 8 2/3 innings, but walked away without a decision.
Pat Burrell drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the Phillies.
Corey Patterson drove in both runs for the Cubs.
Milton (11-2), looking to become the first Phillies lefthander to start a season 12-2 since Hall of Famer Steve Carlton went 13-2 in 1980, threw a no-hitter while with Minnesota on Sept. 11, 1999 against Anaheim.
The last Phillies' no-hitter came on April 27, 2003 when Kevin Millwood shut down the Giants.
