MLB: Chicago White Sox 6, Detroit 4

CHICAGO, July 23 (UPI) -- Juan Uribe put Chicago in front for good with a solo homer in the fourth Friday night as the White Sox downed Detroit, 6-4.

It was the first meeting of the season between the division rivals.

Carlos Lee also had a two-run homer and drove in three runs to keep the White Sox within a half game of Minnesota in the race for the AL Central lead.

Esteban Loaiza (9-5) allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings to get the win. Shingo Takatsu worked a perfect ninth for his eighth save.

Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez picked up his 2,000th career hit with a single in the third, but the Tigers lost for the fourth time in five games.
