MLB: Philadelphia 4, Kansas City 2

PHILADELPHIA, June 19 (UPI) -- Eric Milton threw 134 pitches in seven-plus innings Saturday to continue his mastery of Kansas City as Philadelphia posted a 4-2 victory.

Milton spent his first six seasons in the American League with the Minnesota Twins and amassed a 12-2 record against the Royals in 16 appearances.

Getting his only crack at the Royals this season, Milton (9-1) gave up one run and six hits. The lefthander walked three and struck out eight.

Milton joined Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens as the only nine-game winners in the National League.

Billy Wagner gave up an RBI single to Carlos Beltran in the ninth, but was able to record his 10th save in 12 chances.

Placido Polanco gave Milton an early lead to work with, hitting a two-run homer in the first off Royals rookie Zack Greinke (1-3). Jim Thome added his major league-leading 21st homer in the sixth.
