Bjorn leads on European Tour

BANGKOK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Thomas Bjorn put aside a run-in with Colin Montgomerie to take a two-stroke lead Friday after two rounds of the Johnnie Walker Classic.

Playing his first tournament of the year, Bjorn shot a 4-under-par 68 to improve to 12-under 132 in steamy heat at the Alpine Country Club.

"I'm happy with my performance over the first two days," said Bjorn.

David Lynn shot a 66 and was second at 10-under 134, with fellow Englishman Nick Faldo another shot back after a 70. Defending champion Ernie Els fired a 67 and was tied for seventh, five shots behind.

Bjorn became upset with Montgomerie at the seventh hole when the Scot evidently walked into Bjorn's peripheral vision as the Dane was playing a chip shot. A bogey resulted and Bjorn angrily pointed his putter at Montgomerie.
