Chicago Cubs 7, Philadelphia 6

CHICAGO, July 22 (UPI) -- Sammy Sosa, who earlier hit his 30th home run, singled in the tying run and Fred McGriff followed with an RBI double Monday afternon to give the Cubs a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Mark Bellhorn led off the ninth with a single for his third hit of the game. Chris Stynes followed with a bunt that was fumbled by first baseman Travis Lee, whose throw hit Stynes in the back. Second baseman Tomas Perez retrieved the ball at the edge

of the infield as Bellhorn raced to third.

Sosa ripped an 0-2 pitch from Mesa past shortstop Jimmy Rollins to drive in Bellhorn. McGriff produced his eighth game-winning RBI, lining a 1-0 fastball to the gap in right-center and giving the Cubs their eighth win in 11 games since the All-Star break.

Sosa reached the 30-homer plateau for the ninth time, blasting a two-run shot off starter Robert Person in a four-run second inning. It was his 480th career home run.

The subject of numerous trade rumors, Person lasted just two innings and surrendered four runs and five hits.

Abreu and Pat Burrell each had three hits and three RBI for the Phillies, who suffered their fifth straight loss.

Kyle Farnsworth (3-1) picked up the win despite, allowing Abreu's homer in the ninth.
