Aynaoui advances at Swedish Open

BASTAD, Sweden, July 8 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco struggled against German Lars Burgsmuller, but advanced Monday to the second round of the Swedish Open.

El Aynaoui, who reached the semifinals here last year, defeated Burgsmuller, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 Monday and will face Bohdan Ulihrach of the Czech Republic in the second round. Ulihrach beat American Vincent Spadea, 6-3, 6-1.

El Aynaoui is seeking his fourth title of the year, following Doha, Casablanca and Munich.

Fifth-seeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland reached two ATP finals this season at Estoril and Mallorca, but was upset in the first round on Monday. Argentina's Agustin Calleri, who lost to Nicolas Massu in the Buenos Aires final in February, beat Nieminen, 6-1, 6-4.

Two other seeded players -- No. 6 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile and No. 7 Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina -- defeated Swedish wild cards in first round play. Gonzalez disposed of Magnus Larsson, 7-5, 6-3 and Zabaleta ousted 17-year-old Robin Soderling, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8).

In other matches, Nikolay Davydenko of Russia downed Christophe Rochus of Belgium, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Albert Portas of Spain beat countryman Fernando Vicente, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Albert Montanes of Spain defeated Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic, 7-5, 6-3.
