Officials said the global release of the XPAKi is part of an effort to address the evolving requirements of the defense and homeland-security markets in countering terrorist organizations that use roadside bombs and other explosive threats.

"We have long believed in the wide-scale deployment of rugged detectors and the systematic collection and visualization of trace-explosives data as a means for identifying bomb makers and bomb-making facilities," Regina Dugan, RedXDefense chief executive, said in a statement.

"The introduction of the XPAKi is the next step in our commitment to this objective."
