YORK, Pa., May 12 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted BAE Systems for the delivery of the company's Hercules armored recovery vehicles.
British company BAE said its Heavy Brigade Combat Team Systems unit was contracted to produce 39 of the company's M88A2 Hercules vehicles, capable of recovering 70-ton combat vehicles including the widely deployed Abrams tank.
Officials said that as part of the $81.4 million contract, which includes options for the production of up to 81 additional vehicles, BAE will also provide spare M88A2 Hercules parts.
"Hercules continues to provide unmatched capabilities to our troops," Joe McCarthy, BAE Systems Heavy Brigade Combat Team Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
"This contract brings value to our employees as it extends the current M88A2 production work at BAE Systems and our suppliers across the U.S."
