FREIBURG, Germany, March 23 (UPI) -- South Korea-based Doosan DST contracted Northrop Grumman Corp. to provide infantry fighting vehicles with navigation technologies.
U.S. company Northrop Grumman said its German subsidiary Northrop Grumman LITEF will deliver its LLN-G1 inertial navigation units to military vehicle manufacturer Doosan DST.
Officials said the LLN-G1, a hybrid land-navigation gyrocompassing technology providing uninterrupted three-dimensional position data for vehicle operators, will be integrated into the South Korean military's new K21 infantry fighting vehicle.
"Unjammable situational awareness in combination with gyrocompassing is exactly what the commander of a modern IFV like the K21 needs to effectively carry out his mission," Norbert Sandner, Northrop Grumman LITEF director of marketing and sales, said in a statement.
"This new contract for the series production phase of the K21 infantry fighting vehicle is the second LLN-G1 order for the K21 vehicle, and we are pleased that our systems have again been chosen as an integral part of one of the most advanced infantry fighting vehicle currently available."
