March 29 (UPI) -- Transportation Security Administration officers in Hawaii seized a "stun cane" -- an unusual item that's part "mobility device" part electric shock weapon.

The TSA said officers at the Kahului Airport on the island of Maui inspected a passenger's cane recently and discovered it was designed to do more than help the user walk.

"It's a mobility device. It's a self-defense weapon. It's not allowed in your carry-on property because it delivers 1,000,000 volts! Shocking, we know," the TSA said in an Instagram post.

The TSA said the device is known as a "stun cane" and is included under the category of "stun devices" that are banned from carry-on luggage.

"Concealed stun devices can lead to fines and arrest," the agency said.
