Future set to perform at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Rapper Future has joined the list of performers set to take the stage at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

"My creativity comes from me being in the studio and my past situations," Future says in a promo released Monday on Twitter announcing the performance.

"It's about mastering the tone for me. It's about mastering the melody. It's about mastering a style. It's about becoming one with the beat. It's about taking the beat places the beat never thought it could go." he continues. "My music is a diary. It carries volumes."

Future, real name Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, will be joining fellow artists Britney Spears and Video Vanguard honoree Rihanna who are also set to perform.

Competing for the fan-voted Video of the Year Award during the event are Beyonce's "Formation," Adele's "Hello," Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Kanye West's "Famous" and Drake's "Hotline Bling." Beyonce leads all other artists with a career high 11 nominations.

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards is set to take place Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9 p.m. ET.
