Britney Spears to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards

NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- MTV has announced pop music sensation Britney Spears will perform at this month's Video Music Awards show in New York.

"Oops, we did it again. @BritneySpears makes her return to the #VMA stage Sunday August 28th!" the cable network tweeted Tuesday, along with a brief promo video.

"The VMAs don't just give you a stage, they give you a story. Some way of taking a fraction of a second and making it live forever. Before you know it, it's history," Spears can be heard saying in voiceover in the minute-long clip, which features a giant, yellow snake slithering through an empty nightclub.

Spears' next album Glory is due out Aug. 26.
