LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Michael Bolton, booted from "Dancing with the Stars" last week, is to return and sing, replacing the ailing Susan Boyle as the U.S. show's musical guest.

Boyle's publicist confirmed Monday that a throat infection is preventing the Scottish singing sensation from performing as planned on Tuesday's edition of the dance competition series.

"DWTS" host Tom Bergeron announced on Monday night's episode, however, that Bolton would replace Boyle and perform alongside Ne-Yo, the New York Daily News said.

Bolton and Bruno Tonioli, one of the show's judges, have been sniping at each other for the past week or so, with Tonioli criticizing Bolton's dance moves and Bolton demanding an apology, which Tonioli has declined to make.
