NEWARK, N.J., June 25 (UPI) -- Joseph Cartagena, the rapper known as Fat Joe, has been sentenced in federal court in Newark, N.J., to four months in prison for failing to pay his taxes.

Cartagena, 42, pleaded guilty last December to failing to pay taxes on more than $1 million of income he earned from 2007 to 2010, the New York Times said.

Federal prosecutors said he neglected to pay about $700,000 in taxes on earnings of $3.3 million during the years in question. He was sentenced Monday, the newspaper said.

When he will begin serving his sentence was not reported.

The hip-hop artist's hits include "Flow Joe," "Lean Back" and "What's Luv."
