Rihanna, Minaj lead AMA nominations

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The 40th anniversary of the American Music Awards, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, will feature performances by Taylor Swift, Usher, Pink and Pitbull.

No Doubt, Christina Aguilera, Linkin Park, Nicki Minaj, Carrie Underwood and Ke$sha will also take the stage at the event Sunday, E! News reported.

Rihanna and Minaj lead in nominations with four each, while Drake, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher each have three.

Bieber, Drake, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Rihanna are nominated for the 2012 Artist of the Year award.

The newly added electronic dance music category includes nominations for David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Skrillex.

Fan voting determines the winners in pop/rock, country, rap/hip-hop, soul/R&B, alternative, adult contemporary, Latin and contemporary inspirational categories.
