LONDON, June 1 (UPI) -- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jeremy Irons has shared his opinion about the superhero epic calling it "muddled."

Irons who portrayed Batman's trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth in the film was able to take in over $800 million worldwide despite negative reviews from critics, something the actor says the picture "deserved."

"I mean it took $800 million, so the kicking didn't matter but it was sort of overstuffed," Irons said recently in an interview with the Daily Mail's Event Magazine.

"It was very muddled. I think the next one will be simpler. The script is certainly a lot smaller, it's more linear," he continued referencing Warner Bros. next entry in their DC Comics cinematic universe, Justice League: Part One.

Irons is also expected to portray Alfred in star Ben Affleck's upcoming solo Batman outing which he will also direct. "I'm tied into the Batman at the minute, which is nice because it's a bit of income," Irons joked. "Not that I need a bit of income but it's nice to keep ticking over."

Justice League, set to be directed by Dawn of Justice helmer Zack Snyder, will feature Batman (Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and possibly other heroes, teaming up for the first time when it hits theaters November 10, 2017.

The ensemble film has also added Willem Dafoe in an unspecified role, J.K. Simmons as Batman's trusted ally Commissioner Gordon, and Amber Heard as Aquaman's love interest, undersea queen Mera.

Jesse Eisenberg, who was seen as the villainous Lex Luthor, thinks he may reappear as the character in Justice League as well. "I don't know. I am in wait, they just started filming Justice League so I'm kind of waiting for my crack at it," he said recently.
