George Clooney to be honored with Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes

The event honoring excellence in film and television is to take place in Los Angeles Jan. 11.

BEVERLY HILLS , Calif., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Actor, filmmaker and humanitarian George Clooney is to be honored with the 2015 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 72nd annual Golden Globes ceremony, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday.

The event honoring excellence in film and television is to take place in Los Angeles Jan. 11.

"The HFPA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera," HFPA President Theo Kingma said in a statement.

Previous recipients of the Cecil B. DeMille career-achievement award include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

Clooney's films include The Monuments Men, Gravity, The Descendants, Syriana and Ocean's Eleven. He has earned four Golden Globes, two Oscars, four SAG awards, one BAFTA, two Critics' Choice awards, an Emmy and four National Board of Review awards throughout his career.
