Will Smith's father has died, according to ex-wife Sheree Fletcher

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Will Smith's ex-wife Sheree Fletcher has revealed on social media that the actor's father, Willard Carroll Smith Sr., has died.

"We're gonna miss you Daddio!," Fletcher wrote on Instagram Monday alongside a throwback photo of Will, his father and her son Trey, whom she shares with the Hollywood star.

"You lived & played by your own rules...you truly were 1 of a kind!," she continued.

"You instilled discipline, and a work ethic that has created a legacy in your honor!"

Will had previously referred to his father as "tough but not tyrannical," according to Entertainment Tonight.

"He kept me in line. He'd get this look that said, 'One more step, Will, and it'll get ugly.' He was an independent businessman -- he set up refrigeration in supermarkets -- and he always provided for us. He's a steady and positive figure in my life," he said of Willard.

Fletcher and Will were married from 1992 to 1995. Their son Trey was born in 1992.
