Janet Jackson named Ultimate Icon at BET Awards 2015

LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- Janet Jackson made her return to the stage at the BET Awards Sunday night to accept her Ultimate Icon award for her music, signature dance moves and epic visual display.

Jackson proudly accepted the award -- even refusing to let it go after someone offered to hold it for her-- saying: "It's been a very long journey to get to this moment...my heart is so full. Thank you God for making everything possible. I am so grateful for the support you've always given me."

While sporting long curly hair and a white jumpsuit, Jackson went on to thank her entire family, giving a special shout-out to her mother and father, Katherine and Joe Jackson, who were in attendance.

"To my beautiful mother and father and to my entire family, your love is unbreakable," she said.

The award and speech came after the "All For You" singer was treated to a star-studded tribute that included performances by Jason Derulo, Ciara and Tinashe.

Ciara was vocal about her excitement for being able to to contribute to the production, that was full of quick changes and dance sequences that replicated the "Rhythm Nation" artist's choreography.

"I couldn't sleep. All I have to say is that it's a lot of dancing," she told LaLa Anthony as she walked the red carpet. "Some of Janet's coolest dance moves are happening tonight and I'm so honored to be a part of it."

Before heading off stage, Jackson was sure to acknowledge the support of her husband and fans.

"Last but not least, to my loving husband and to all the fans," she began. "I've missed you so much and I love you so much."

According to E! News, in May Jackson announced, via a video she tweeted that she has new music and is gearing up for a world tour.

"I promised you'd hear it from my lips, and now you will," she said in the video. "This year: new music, new world tour, a new movement."

She recently released a new single entitled "No Sleep."
