NEW YORK, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Rosario Dawson has adopted a daughter.

The 35-year-old actress adopted a 12-year-old girl in October, sources tell Page Six. Dawson herself was adopted as an infant by her stepfather, and previously told Latina magazine she planned to adopt children of her own.

"I always wanted to adopt kids 'cause my dad adopted me," she shared. "That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I've been thinking about it more. My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they're getting older."

Dawson was born to Isabel Celeste and Patrick C. Harris in 1979. Her mother and Harris never married, and Celeste wed Greg Dawson when the actress was one year old. The couple divorced in 2001.

Dawson declined to answer questions about her daughter Wednesday on Today. She told host Matt Lauer she "rarely talk[s] about tabloid speculation," and wouldn't make an exception to protect her family's privacy.

Dawson was last linked to director Danny Boyle, whom she dated from 2012 to 2013. The actress is scheduled to star as Claire Temple in upcoming Netflix series Daredevil, and will appear alongside Dianna Agron in Famous in 2015.
