HOLLYWOOD, April 13 (UPI) -- Science fiction thriller The Martian may have just lost its director, Drew Goddard, but could score a big Hollywood name in Matt Damon, who is reportedly considering starring in the film.

Goddard departed the film, based on an e-book by Andy Weir, in order to direct Spiderman spinoff Sinister Six.

But all is not lost for The Martian, because Damon may be interested in joining the cast.

The film is about an American space explorer stranded on Mars who has to find a way to get back to Earth before his supplies run out.
