LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. Grammy-winning vocalist John Mayer is on complete vocal rest as he recovers from surgery to remove a granuloma near his vocal cord.

The surgery was conducted Thursday and Mayer was told he needs to be on complete vocal rest for a month or more, The Hollywood Reporter said. He was diagnosed with throat inflammation last month.

"It's been a very long process in waiting to see if time was an alternative to surgery, but even given two weeks' voice rest (along with many other approaches), there was no change for the better," Mayer said in a post on his Tumblr account.

The release of his upcoming album, "Born and Raised," has been postponed to some time next year.

"I should be frustrated but I can't seem to stop thinking about beautiful things," he said in his post last Thursday. "I have this beautiful, meaningful record waiting for me when I can sing it."
