Scriptwriter Hanrahan dead at age 75

CLEVELAND, April 28 (UPI) -- Emmy Award-winning TV scriptwriter Jack Hanrahan died Monday in a Cleveland nursing home at age 75.

The Cleveland native and writer for "Rowan & Martin's Laugh In," "Get Smart," "Police Woman" and many other top TV shows of the 1960s and 1970s, was homeless in his later years, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.

He returned home penniless in 2006 and lived in a homeless shelter, the newspaper said. Eventually, he was taken to a Veterans Administration hospital, then the nursing home where he died.

No specific cause of death was given, but The Plain Dealer said Hanrahan had several medical problems, including a heart condition.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
