Mariah Carey tops Billboard album chart

NEW YORK, April 23 (UPI) -- For the sixth time in her career, Mariah Carey has a debut album in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart with "E=MC2."

Carey had her biggest sales week ever with fans snatching up 463,000 copies of the Island Def Jam release, Billboard.com reported Wednesday, citing figures from Nielsen SoundScan.

Coming in at No. 2 on the albums chart was "Spirit," by Leona Lewis followed by Miley Cyrus' "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert" at No. 3 and the self-titled debut of Lady Antebellum at No. 4.

The hits compilation "NOW 27" slipped a notch to No. 5, followed by George Strait's "Troubadour" No. 6, the soundtrack to "Alvin & the Chipmunks" at No. 7 and the soundtrack to "Juno" ranked No. 8.

The Top 10 was filled out by R.E.M.'s "Accelerate" and Taylor Swift's self-titled album.

Weekly sales of 7.5 million albums constituted a 1.9 percent increase over last week but an 8.1 percent compared to the same period in 2007.
