Hopkins: Alec Baldwin is 'the best'

NEW YORK, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Welsh actor Anthony Hopkins says Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin is the "best, most generous guy" he has worked with in his storied career.

Hopkins, who won an Oscar for playing a charismatic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs," worked with Baldwin on the 1997 film "The Edge."

"He saved my life on that movie because I had an injury to my neck," Hopkins said on the A&E series, "Private Sessions." "It was Alec who stopped (the movie.) He said, 'You got to get this guy to a hospital.' He said, 'You can't go on doing this, this is crazy.' The best, most generous guy I've ever worked with. ... He's the best…he's gang busters."

Hopkins ended up having surgery to treat a herniated disc in his neck.

His new movie, "Slipstream," which is about the intertwining worlds of dream and reality, opens in the United States Friday.

Hopkins wrote, directed, composed music for and acted in the film.
