Deborah Kerr dead at 86

LONDON, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Hollywood screen actress Deborah Kerr has died at the age of 86, the Guardian Unlimited reported Thursday.

Kerr, who was best-known for her roles in "From Here to Eternity," "An Affair to Remember," "Heaven Knows Mr. Allison" and "The Sundowners," was nominated six times for an Academy Award.

The American Film Institute named "From Here to Eternity" as one of the top 100 most romantic films of all time and a scene showing Kerr and Burt Lancaster lying on a beach with waves washing over their bodies has become one of Hollywood's most iconic images.

Kerr also played Anna in the 1956 movie musical, "The King and I," and was a Bond girl in the 1967 version of "Casino Royale."

Born Deborah Jane Kerr-Trimmer in Helensburgh, Scotland, she originally trained as a ballet dancer, then switched to film.

Kerr's breakthrough was in the 1947 film, "Black Narcissus."

Appointed CBE in 1998, she suffered from Parkinson's disease in recent years, the Telegraph said.
