Stars to descend on Toronto film fest

TORONTO, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Some of the biggest names in show business -- multiple Michaels and a jumble of Jennifers -- are on the guest list for next month's Toronto film festival.

Some 500 guests, like film stars Michael Caine, Michael Douglas and director Michael Moore, include those presenting and discussing their latest films, speaking out on a social issue or simply being seen during the Toronto International Film Festival, Sept. 6-15, the Toronto Sun reported Thursday.

Celebrities -- including Jennifers Garner, Connelly, Ehle and Jason Leigh -- from more than 50 countries will help light up the festival showing of 349 films, many of them world premieres.

In spite of the glitz, Piers Handling, co-director of the event with Noah Cowan, said "edgy, topical and issue-oriented" could describe the 2007 fest.

"I think there are a lot of things on people's minds," Handling told Britain's the Sun. "A lot of the filmmakers are picking up on the zeitgeist and addressing what's going on in the world right now."
