Timberlake, Beyonce each earn 7 VMA nods

NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. pop singers Justin Timberlake and Beyonce Knowles are tied with seven nominations apiece for this year's MTV Video Music Awards, People.com said Tuesday.

The nominations were announced on MTV’s “Total Request Live” program in New York.

Kanye West and Rihanna both earned five nominations each, while British newcomer Amy Winehouse received three nods.

Timberlake's "What Goes Around ... Comes Around," Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable," West's "Stronger," Rihanna's "Umbrella," Winehouse's "Rehab" and French electro duo Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." are all in competition for the coveted video of the year award.

West and Rihanna were on TRL Tuesday when the nominations were announced, as were fellow scheduled performers Chris Brown, Timbaland and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, People.com noted.

The two-hour VMA telecast will air live from the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas Sept. 9.

The show will feature eight categories, including fan favorites, as well as four new slots: Male/female artist of the year, most earth-shattering collaboration, monster single of the year and quadruple threat award.
