Ex-Kiss drummer releases solo album

NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- Even as he puts out his first solo album in 13 years, former Kiss drummer Peter Criss won't rule out a return to the band.

"I've learned never to say never," says Criss, who has just released "One For All." "If I ever said never, I had to really bite my tongue. Gene (Simmons, Kiss' bassist) and I once laughed about it -- 'Here we are, about to go on (stage). Never say never, man...' "

Paul Shaffer and Will Lee from CBS' "The Late Show with David Letterman" are among the musicians backing Criss on "One For All."

Criss says the autobiographical nature of "One For All's" songs -- including a paean to Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley, "Space Ace" -- was inspired by an autobiography he's been working on since 1989 and hopes to publish in the near future.

Criss' time away from Kiss has also included some acting, including a role on the HBO prison series "Oz."
